THE US OPEN was almost reduced to farce yesterday as the infamous par-three seventh became all but unplayable.

Play was suspended for 20 minutes in the US Open today – after officials had to agree that the green at the short seventh had crossed the line and was unfair.

The chairman of the United States Open championship committee has admitted a mistake was made on the hole which Ernie Els described as “ridiculous” and “unplayable”.
