A flight instructor, who was “firmly convinced he was going to die” when the microlight he was in went into a steep dive, alerted emergency services to the accident location by using the GPS app on his mobile phone.

A full technical examination of an aircraft which crashed in Co Tipperary yesterday will take place at the Air Accident Investigation Unit in Co Meath later.

INVESTIGATIONS are under way into the cause of a light aircraft crash which injured a flight instructor and his pupil yesterday after the craft plunged 2,000 feet from the sky.
