A drunk driver who crashed on a Christmas night out causing the death of the love of his life was jailed for a year yesterday.

A woman remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital after a road crash on Saturday — an incident which occurred after four road deaths over the Christmas period.

Valerie O’Donovan, 32, died in the early hours of last Sunday in a single vehicle crash at Manch Middle, Ballineen, Co Cork. Ms O’Donovan of Riverview Drive, Ballineen was a front-seat passenger in the car.

An 11-year-old girl is this morning coming to terms with the death of her mother just days before Christmas.
