Church authorities, gardaí, and locals remain mystified about the motive for cutting down a landmark Christian cross at the summit of Ireland’s highest mountain.

Some parts of Kerry will now be more than an hour away from their nearest 24-hour Garda station, following the closure of nine stations in the county, some of which had been there since the days of the Royal Irish Constabulary in the 19th century.

A FINANCIALLY troubled Kerry golf club is set to close unless the 300 members can come up with a rescue formula.
