Having only her second outing over fences, the Robert Tyner-trained Byerley Babe outclassed her rivals in the Student Race Festival Mares Beginners Chase on the final day of Limerick’s Christmas meeting.

Paul Nolan’s Defy Logic, beautifully handled by Mark Walsh, landed the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown yesterday, after hot pot, Champagne Fever, blundered away his chance at the second last.

Rubi Ball, the winner of 16 races in his native France, made a less than auspicious start in this country when going under by a head to Foildubh in the Rock Of Cashel Hurdle at Thurles yesterday.
