One third of Irish women aged between 50 and 69 are ‘sandwich carers’ looking after both older parents and dependent children simultaneously.

“You don’t volunteer for this kind of job — you do it when you have to,” said octogenarian Peter Riordan, Ireland’s National Carer of the Year.
