DEFENDING champion Roger Federer cruised into round three at Wimbledon by beating Ivo Minar yesterday.

The infamous “graveyard of champions” failed to add to its list of illustrious victims at Wimbledon today, as both top seed Lindsay Davenport and world number three Amelie Mauresmo booked safe passage into the third round.

Wimbledon 2005 was getting under way today with a host of British players set to see first-round action on what should be another scorching day in the sun.
