An 18-year-old man who gave evidence in the trial of two cousins jailed for a gun attack with an AK47 assault rifle has been acquitted by a jury of a firearms offence.

Bail has been refused to two cousins who are accused of being in possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle at Cliona Park, in Moyross, Limerick on August 23.

A GARDA told a court yesterday how he feared for the safety of the people of Limerick as two men were charged with possessing a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

Two men have appeared before a special sitting of Limerick district court charged with possession of an assault riffle over the weekend.
