Safer roads enable children to play, encourage people to cycle and walk and reduced speed limits would decrease the number of fatalities on Irish roads, writes Fergus Finlay.

A protest is continuing outside the Dáil this evening, organised by two mothers who are calling for lower speed limits in housing estates.
