An IRA sniper convicted of killing the last British soldier to die before the Good Friday peace agreement has been found dead.

The Police Ombudsman in the North has criticised the disappearance of critical evidence needed to investigate claims that the murder of a British soldier could have been prevented.

The British Ministry of Defence has obtained a gagging order against a former British soldier who has claimed that a colleague was “sacrificed” in the North to protect an informer.
