‘Sisters were doing it for themselves’ in Clare as three new female councillors were elected to the council tripling female representation in the authority.

The High Court has heard allegations that a company, part owned by brothers Edward and Oliver Garry, the latter a Fine Gael member of Clare County Council, had lost money through unauthorised withdrawals by directors of €400,000.

A Fine Gael councillor and his two sons have been accused of using resources from their company Abbey Contractors Ltd for their personal benefit.

CLARE County Council has confirmed plans to extend the visitor access to the Loop Head Lighthouse until October following a massive response to its recent opening to the public.

PAYMENTS of €48,000 to councillors for attending three conferences were in accordance with departmental rates and agreed with the Environment Minister, a county manager has stated.
