The trial of a 32-year-old Dublin man accused of murder has heard the fatal stabbing "arose out of a rivalry between two men for the affections of one woman".

A jury in the trial of a father charged with murdering his infant son is expected to retire on Tuesday next to decide whether the accused is insane or guilty of murder.
