Web giant AOL is planning to dig up a garden in a hunt for gold and platinum bars it believes an internet spammer ordered to pay them millions of dollars has buried there.

America Online, Microsoft and Yahoo! Inc have said that they are to work together to find ways to block unidentified e-mail messages and stop the creation of fraudulent e-mail accounts.
