Marion Barry, the scandal-plagued former mayor of Washington DC, who was jailed for smoking crack cocaine before making a surprising return to office, has died aged 78.

Cork is set to go a little bit New Orleans this weekend as the best jazz musicians from home and abroad descend for a Cork City carnival.

More than 1,000 musicians from 22 countries will descend on Cork for the annual Guinness Jazz Festival, delivering 400 performances at 50 venues over the October Bank Holiday weekend.
