A man arrested in connection with the murder of teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan, whose family is from Co Mayo, remains in custody tonight after a British magistrate granted detectives an extra day to quiz him, police said.

A 21-year-old man accused of murdering teenager Mary-Ann Leneghan was under police guard in hospital tonight after being injured in his cell.

Police today charged 21-year-old Jamaile Morally, of Balham, south-west London, with the murder of Mary-Ann Leneghan, 16, in Reading last weekend.
