A massive three-day battle in southern Afghanistan between Nato and Taliban militants has killed more than 100 people, including insurgents, civilians and police, Afghan officials said today.

Afghanistan's Northern Alliance will be able to break the Taliban's front lines "within a few days" if the US maintains its intense bombardments, says a senior alliance official.
