AMONG the thousands of Irish travellers affected by the volcanic ash cloud that has swept across northern Europe were the McCarthy family from Youghal, Co Cork.

MORE than 5,000 passengers travelling through Cork airport were told a once-in-a-lifetime event had grounded their flights.
