A MOTHER and her Irish-born child, who had been detained in Britain for more than two weeks, have been released on bail after a Scottish politician offered them a place to stay.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is in contact with authorities in Scotland, where it's claimed an Irish-born baby has been held for over a week at an asylum detention centre.
