THE RAIN may have fallen heavily at times but nothing could have dampened the spirits or spoiled the enjoyment of the hundreds of people who watched yesterday’s Special Olympics golf finals at Portmarnock Links.

OLIVER DOHERTY, aged 27, from Buncrana, Co Donegal, is poised to become Ireland’s first golf gold medallist in level 1 of the Special Olympics.

IRELAND’S top Olympian at the World Games, Oliver Doherty, reinforced his lead in the golf at Portmarnock Hotel and golf links with a magnificent round of 78.
