NASA has revived its Mars rover Spirit and started the delicate process of cleaning old files out of its memory to cure it of the problems that have delayed its search for signs that the planet was once a wetter place.

NASA scientists were today trying to coax their ailing rover Spirit back to health while its twin prepared to reach out to the Martian soil with its robotic arm for the first time.
