New Zealand is a tiny wine producing region in world terms but has managed to carve out a hugely influential niche for itself with their unique take on Sauvignon Blanc.

I am writing this week’s column outside in the garden such is the weather at the moment. It is not just the Irish that are obsessed with the weather, however — talk to any grape grower or winemaker.

MOST of us think of red wines made from Tempranillo and Garnacha (Grenache) when we think of Spain, but this week I want to highlight one of my favourite white wines.
