Maggie Gyllenhaal gives a revealing performance in SherryBaby (Metrodome, e24.99) as Sherry Swanson, a heroin addict just released from prison who wants to stay clean and win custody of her children.

There could be an Oscar nomination awaiting Gyllenhaal after this magnificently gritty and realistic, yet warm-hearted, performance as an ex-con trying to re-establish herself in the life of her six-year-old daughter.

Maggie Gyllenhaal won the Best Actress prize for her performance in Sherrybaby at the 17th Stockholm Film Festival on Saturday night.
