A former Roscommon garda has received a three-year suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for his role in an insurance fraud conspiracy arising out of a false traffic accident.

A teenager who broke into a pensioner’s home 15 minutes after his release on bail from a garda station has been jailed for three years by Judge Desmond Hogan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

PRISON rights’ activists last night welcomed suggestions by Justice Minister Michael McDowell that Dublin’s Mountjoy prison may be destroyed and be replaced by a new facility outside the city.
