A Limerick man has been jailed for the four and a half years for a “savage” attack on his former partner during which he beat her with a shovel until it broke.

A woman who retracted a statement she made to gardaí alleging she was raped 43 times was subjected to systematic intimidation so that her alleged assailant could get bail, Limerick District Court heard.
