Around 3,000 civil servants in the North were taking strike action today in a protest against threatened compulsory redundancies.

A public service union tonight announced an intensification of its civil service strike action in Northern Ireland in a dispute over pay.

Up to 20,000 civil servants across Northern Ireland were today staging another one-day strike as part of a continuing pay dispute.
