EMC Corp, the world’s third-largest maker of computer data-storage systems, said second-quarter earnings soared as sales rose 6.6% and some costs fell.

EMC Corp, the world’s third-biggest maker of data-storage systems, agreed to buy software rival Legato Systems Inc. for $1.3 billion in stock, to sell more higher-profit programs and rely less on sales of machines.

Storage management software provider EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) and BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE: BMC), an enterprise management company, have announced a global sales, marketing and technology partnership.
