One of the four men involved in an attempted bank robbery in Abbyleix in 2001 in which a garda was accidentally killed has been jailed for eight years by Judge Michael White at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Four men were charged tonight in connection with an attempted bank raid in Abbeyleix that ended in the death of a detective, accidentally shot by a colleague.

Four men have appeared in court in the Midlands this evening in connection with Friday’s aborted bank robbery in Co Laois.
