It will be a tough first day of competition for the five Irish athletes competing at the world indoor championships in Poland today but they all have their personal goals to keep them on track.

Mo Farah sealed his status as one of Britain’s best ever athletes tonight as he sprinted to victory in the 5,000m at the World Championships.

Mo Farah dragged himself out of bed at 6am to move a step closer to the double-double by cruising through his 5,000 metres heat at the World Championships in Moscow.

Fionnuala Britton had a fine third place finish over 3,000m in Karlsruhe on Saturday evening, running a personal best of 8:55.22 behind Meseret Defar’s 8:35.28 as a host of Irish athletes competed around the globe.
