Afghanistan’s interior minister, one of the most prominent faces in President Hamid Karzai’s Cabinet, has announced his resignation after struggling to combat Afghanistan’s booming drug trade.

One of the most prominent faces in Afghan president Hamid Karzai’s Cabinet, Ahmad Ali Jalali, who had struggled to shake-up the Interior Ministry and combat Afghanistan’s booming drugs trade, announced his resignation today.

Afghan anti-drug chief Habibullah Qaderi headed to NATO headquarters today to discuss the booming heroin trade which threatens efforts to stabilise the country.
