An Oxford University employee has been denied bail after appearing in court in San Francisco accused of murdering a 26-year-old hair stylist.

A gunman who wounded a doctor and then barricaded himself inside a Baltimore hospital room has been shot and killed, police said tonight.

A doctor has been shot at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore and a suspect is holed up inside, police said.
