Inquiries into Garda handling of the deaths of four men and fraud allegations against another have run into difficulties amid concerns over delays, insufficient resources, and overly restrictive terms of reference.

It has understood that the Department of Justice is to establish a statutory inquiry into allegations of Garda misconduct made by a former head of the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association.
