The Garda Síochána “failed in its duty” in not investigating two historical cases of child sexual abuse, subsequently the subject of the Cloyne report, the Garda Ombudsman has found.

The Garda ombudsman has launched an inquiry into the Garda handling of abuse claims in the diocese of Cloyne.

THE Cloyne Commission has said it is “very concerned” at the role of gardaí in three cases, including one where no investigation was carried out and another where a statement from a victim was left forgotten in a drawer.

A PARISH priest admitted abusing three children for a number of years and when he was younger, he said fondled up to six girls.
