Tesco directly and indirectly benefits the economy to the tune of €3.27bn a year, according to a new report.

Planning permission is today being sought for a €50m development that aims to be "a catalyst project for Cork city centre, a game changer".

DEVELOPER John Cleary hasemerged as the preferred bidder for Cork city centre’s prime Capitol cinema site on Grand Parade, and aims to build a mix of big-box retail units, aimed at the likes of Zara and Forever 21, and fourth generation offices on the site which links back to Patrick’s Street. 

AS Cork’s Lord Mayor Michael O’Connell sees it, the city’s celebrated marytrs, Tomás McCurtain and Terence McSweeney, would have been proud.
