Shares in FBD rose almost 5% as the insurer signalled it was on course to boost profitability as claims conditions had improved and premium prices had increased in recent months.

The chief executive of FBD has urged the Government to act on its own extensive report into the insurance industry and bring forward legislation that would help rein in the costs of claims.

Insurer Quinn-direct has outlined its intention to expand further into the liability insurance sector.
