Formula One will return to the BBC from the 2009 season after the corporation secured a five-year television rights deal, it was announced today.

The Ryder Cup will continue to be exclusively live on Sky Sports until at least 2012, while a new agreement starting in 2009 will see live coverage of the first two days’ play in four European Tour events switch from BBC to Sky.

The BBC has negotiated a deal to continue live terrestrial television coverage of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe until 2009.

The BBC and R&A have agreed a new multi-million pound deal to televise the Open championship for the next five years.
