A teenager who was expelled from France in a case that sparked a debate about immigration suffered another crisis when her mother was attacked in Kosovo.

Under fire from the far left and members of his own party, Socialist president Francois Hollande said today that a 15-year-old girl who was detained in front of her classmates and expelled can return to France. But the rest of the family cannot come with her.

Several hundred French teenagers have erected barricades outside their schools and marched through Paris to protest at the police expulsions of immigrant families – including some of their classmates.
