Northern Ireland’s chief electoral officer Denis Stanley was tonight urged to resign after Sinn Féin claimed a report has revealed concerns about how the voter register was compiled.

Speaking after northern polls closed last night, the Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams expressed concern at certain aspects of the conduct of the election.

The SDLP is to press for National Insurance numbers to be used at polling stations in a bid to stamp out electoral fraud, the party revealed today.

Two men are being questioned by the RUC about a gun attack on a polling station in which two officers and a woman were injured.
