SENATOR Joe Biden was one of only two US senators to write a letter of support for the stamp commemorating Wexford-born Commodore John Barry — “the father of the American Navy” — as proposed by the Commodore Barry Club of Brooklyn in 1999.

I WAS greatly saddened to learn about the recent death of my dear friend Bernie Murphy in Cork. I trust that the tributes to him are still continuing. I wonder if one of those tributes might include the naming of a street in his honour? May he rest in peace.
