People living in or visiting a popular village in West Cork will have to put up with unsightly and smelly seaweed in its normally picturesque lagoon because trying to remove it could make the problem worse.

One of the most iconic structures on the south-west coast has fallen into disrepair and should be urgently acquired by Cork County Council to be turned into a tourist attraction.

Cork County Council's economic development department has been asked to draw up plans to attract small and medium-sized businesses to Bandon amid fears major sewerage and flood projects underway in the town are driving them out.

Cork city and county councils are still in dispute over Cork’s boundary alteration, which will be presented to Government today.
