A judge dismissed manslaughter charges against former Argentinian President Fernando de la Rua for five deaths during street protests in 2001, saying an eight-year investigation failed to find evidence of his responsibility.

GENERAL Leopoldo Galtieri, Argentina's de facto president during the 1976-83 dictatorship, has been arrested on the orders of a judge prosecuting human rights abuses of that era.
