Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Nobel laureate known for dedicating her life to helping the poor, will be made a saint of the Catholic Church, the Vatican has said.

AN exhibit on the life of Mother Teresa opens a week before her beatification, featuring a pair of her worn sandals and the Nobel Peace Prize medal she won for her work caring for the poor and sick of Calcutta.

THE Pope yesterday approved a miracle attributed to Mother Teresa's intercession, paving the way for the nun who dedicated her life to the poor to be beatified and possibly made a saint.

The first phase of a process expected to lead to Mother Teresa being declared a saint has been completed.
