A violent weather system that claimed 12 lives in Oklahoma and Arkansas amid tornadoes and flash floods gave way to clearing skies as the storms trekked toward the US east coast today.

The US region hit by a deadly tornado less than two weeks ago is being slammed again. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a mother and baby were killed, and emergency officials said reports of injuries were “widespread”.
