Ecuador’spresident Alfredo Palacio has sacked economy minister Jose Jouvin, just 17 days before he himself is due to leave office.

Ecuador’s ousted president Lucio Gutierrez has taken refuge in the Brazilian Embassy in Quito and asked for asylum, the Brazilian foreign ministry says.
