FRANCE’S beleaguered leadership last night received a boost after rail unions raised hopes that a crippling strike would end.

A strike by air traffic controllers crippled flights in France today, reducing air traffic to about 20% of normal – one of several walkouts over the government’s plan to revise the pension system.
