The Irish arm of HSBC is being sued for more than half a billion dollars arising from the massive Ponzi scheme run by jailed US fraudster Bernard Madoff.

HSBC’s interim results reveal that the company made a $250m (€188m) settlement in the Irish High Court as a result of investments in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.

HSBC Holdings Plc has amended its settlement with investors in an Irish fund who lost their money in Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme after its original offer was rejected by a US judge in September.
