At least 30 people were killed when a pair of earthquakes jolted Tibet’s capital and surrounding areas today, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

At least 10 people died and hundreds of homes collapsed when a strong earthquake rumbled through western China’s mountainous Xinjiang region near the border with Kazakhstan today.

A moderate earthquake hit a sparsely populated area of south-western China’s interior early today, killing at least five people and injuring 29 as residents of rickety houses spilled into the streets, authorities and witnesses said.

The Chinese government dispatched cold-weather tents, earthquake teams and cash today to a remote area of the country’s north-west where powerful twin tremors, minutes apart, killed nine people and razed houses.

One person has died and at least 25 have been injured in a "moderately strong" earthquake in a remote area of south-western China’s Yunnan province.
