IRELAND is set to lose up to a fifth of its fishing fleet tonnage when new regulations are introduced by the EU next year.

THERE was bad news for Irish fishermen yesterday with cutbacks proposed in the amount of hake they can catch.

MARINE Minister Dermot Ahern said he was totally opposed to fisheries proposals at the start of a five-day meeting in Brussels yesterday.
