Gunfire echoed across Bamako today as Malian government troops battled each other, with one side trying to oust soldiers who seized power in a coup over a month ago.

Slobodan Milosevic’s paramilitary commander and 11 other people were today convicted of assassinating Serbia’s first democratically-elected prime minister, Zoran Djindjic.

The trial of the suspected assassins of Serbia’s prime minister opened in Belgrade today, with the focus on an alleged plot by gangsters and police to bring allies of Slobodan Milosevic back to power.
