The Northern Rock bank was today criticised by charities for its “aggressive” attitude towards repossessions.

Finance Minister Brian Cowen has reassured Irish customers of Northern Rock Bank that their savings are being guaranteed by the British government.

The financial watchdog in Britain maintains that Northern Rock bank is solvent and will continue with business as usual.
