FAMILIES in rural Ireland are facing daily school runs of up to 40 miles because new seating arrangements have reduced space on school buses.

Quite plainly, a 40-year-old school transport system, which could possibly force as many as 6,000 children to have to change schools, is in serious need of a review.

SEAT belts are a first positive step in dealing with issues in school transport.
